5 Ways that Helping Others Can Help You Vibrate Higher

Posted on

At Vibrate Higher, our mission is to Wear Good, Do Great. Service is the foundation we have built upon, and you may know by now that proceeds from your high-vibe purchases go directly to helping a family in need. For every purchase - we donate a solar powered light to a family without electricity in Haiti.

Whether it’s supporting charitable brands, holding a door open for the person behind you, or committing to volunteering each week, helping others and being of service is a powerful act.

But it’s not only powerful for others, it makes an impact on you, too! An act of kindness can boost your mood, improve confidence and optimism, and so much more. Read on for five proven ways that helping others helps YOU! For it is in giving, that we receive.

1. HELPING OTHERS CAN HELP YOU LIVE LONGER

This might sound like a bold claim, but research suggests it’s true! Hear us out - When we help others, not only are we more socially active, we are likely more physically active as well, leaving the confines of our couch and our home to get out there into the world. These are factors that significantly affect long-term health!

Furthermore, there is now evidence suggesting that generosity and happiness are linked in the brain -- helping others activates a neurochemical sense of reward in the brain, enhancing overall happiness and decreasing stress. Some psychologists even call this a “Helper’s High.” But when the stress does hit, studies show that volunteers have an increased ability to manage these emotions.

2. HELPING OTHERS GIVES A SENSE OF PURPOSE AND BELONGING

So many of us are struggling with what our “purpose” is in this world. What are we meant to do? Who are we meant to be? A beautiful place to find those answers is within service -- within giving your time and energy freely to help another. This act creates an automatic connection and feelings of belonging and community between those involved. You also give off positive vibrations when you help others, which can improve relationships with everyone around you.

3. HELPING OTHERS CAN REGULATE YOUR OWN EMOTIONS

Helping others comes in many shapes and sizes, and includes simply lending an ear and a fresh perspective to someone going through a hard time. And, bonus, recent research suggests that helping others navigate their stressful situations ultimately enhances the skills we need to regulate our own emotions! Almost as if the outside situation is a practice round for when you yourself begin to feel similar feelings of stress or anguish, and your own emotional well-being benefits in the long run.

4. HELPING OTHERS CAN HELP INCREASE YOUR PHYSICAL HEALTH

It’s no secret that emotions like anger, anxiety and stress can have an impact on our mind and our body. They can weaken our immune system and leave us feeling all BLEH. But helping others and volunteering can help decrease these feelings, giving us a ton of new and beautiful feelings to fill our bodies, and ultimately stabilize our overall physical health. Studies have shown it can also help with chronic pain and potentially even lower blood pressure!

5. HELPING OTHERS CREATES A CHAIN REACTION - IT’S CONTAGIOUS! - AND IMPROVES THE WORLD YOU LIVE IN

Studies show that kindness is literally contagious! When you see someone else do a good deed, it gives you a good feeling, which can encourage you to go out and put forth your own altruism. This can really make an impact on an entire community, creating a ripple effect of good deeds, and create a more positive and High Vibe environment.
